MOVE (August, 2023)
Manifesting Connective Creative in our Environment Produced by MOON Collective Production Team Instruction by Erika Clark, Joseph Fernandez, Scot Hendricks, Aliya Kerimujiang Social Media & Marketing by Athziri Morales General Manager & Producer: Aliya Kerimujiang Associate Producer: Jesús López Vargas MOON Collective invites you to a movement-based event to re-find expression and interconnectivity through movement with community members. The disconnected body often is the reason for disconnected belief systems, emotional unawareness and lack of play. OBJECTIVES: The group worked with our imagination and kinesthetic empathy to wake up our intuitive animal body and find expression and connection between the self, earth and each other. This project was our response to the disconnectivity. |

Manifesting Connective Creative in our Environment Produced by MOON Collective Production Team Lead Instructor & Research by Aliya Kerimujiang Assistant Instructor: Jesús López Vargas Social Media & Marketing by Athziri Morales General Manager & Producer: Merle DeWitt III Associate Producer: Jessica Keasberry Over the summer 2022, MOON Collective hosted a movement-based event to re-find expression and interconnectivity through movement with community members. The disconnected body often is the reason for disconnected belief systems, emotional unawareness and lack of play. OBJECTIVES: The group worked with our imagination and kinesthetic empathy to wake up our intuitive animal body and find expression and connection between the self, earth and each other. This project was our response to the climate change and abortion rights. Let’s find intimacy between our skin and earth’s skin. Let your breath interchange with the earth’s breath. Let’s find peace in chaos. |
CONNECT/DISCONNECT (May, 2021)
Movement & Video Installation Produced by Aliya Kerim & University California, Irvine Director: Aliya Kerim Collaborative Performer: Paola Perez-Roja RESEARCH OBJECTIVES: Connect/Disconnect is a movement and video installation piece; investigating the connection and disconnection between humans and earth from a mover’s perspective. The backstory of two characters in the project are a mover who questions her human identity in relation to nature and this introspection is displayed by wandering in nature and having an imaginative inner experience in a place where it's full of trash. I start this practice as research by asking myself: who am I in relation to earth? Seeking for the interconnectedness of self and environment represents the beginning of this production. I welcome the unknown to enter into my body as I discover the storyline of the film along the journey of my growth: dance and life are inseparable. The choreographic process offers me a space to explore meanings in life; a massager of nature. I collect the creative materials from ecological performance practice during the rehearsal process. The idea of connect/disconnect between human and nature comes from both my embodiment of nature and trash. I look into literature and media sources on humanity's impact on nature. I create the characters and their dialogues by analyzing and interpreting the reflective journal practices, conversations, stories, experiences and beliefs between Paloma and I. These processes determine the meanings of the finalized work as it reflects back onto that specific stage of my personal understanding of life experiences. We are movers and we experience the world through our body. Please find my M.F.A thesis: Kerimujiang_uci_0030M_16942. Merritt ID: ark:/13030/m5mq1960. AARZU (July, 2019)
Experimental Dance Theater Produced and Directed by Aliya Kerim Collaborative Performing artists: Alejandro Triana, Patricia Als, RESEARCH OBJECTIVES: I attempt to push the boundaries of Uyghur dance by incorporating theatrical approach to dialogue, movement and fusion of dance styles that was present in my movement lineage. I want to explore a movement style within a dreamscape unrestricted by time and identities. In this performance, I attempt to push back on the clichés of identity, time, and place to make room for movement beyond these concepts, employing the mediums of theater movement and sound. The one-hour piece features contemporary word-fusion music played on the Oud, the Hand Drum, the Rawap, and a myriad of flute configurations. This is an instructed improvisational theater experiment that was completed over 3 weeks, and yet the artistic and human connection I have built with performers are developed over the years of my life in New York City. You can find all the artists' bio in my collaboration page. |
